Give Through Your Individual retirement plan Have you remembered Mount Hermon in your will?

A Note from Ron Demolar
This summer my grown children, Ginger and Denise, came back to Mount Hermon, and we did some special things together. Ginger and Russ have a one year-old, Isaac, and we enjoyed special events at Family Camp together. It was so much fun, and we anticipate more of these times together in years to come. This is a great place for Family Reunions! I have experienced it, and I can highly recommend it to you! Come and join us next summer! Bring your children and extended family with you, and we will make your experience here special and refreshing for you and your family. When you come, make sure you connect with me! We have a time for Associates and Alumni to gather and reconnect every week, and I would love to see you here! Warmly in Christ,
Mount Hermon Launches Project R.E.P.A.I.R.
The Centennial Campaign was a huge success, and we are still rejoicing in God’s amazing provision. But soon after the campaign’s conclusion, two things surfaced. The first was a series of infrastructure surprises including the need to stabilize Conference Drive, and to replace in the Dining Hall both walk-in freezer and refrigerator units, as well as the hot water system. The second was a collection of growing needs that clearly could not and should not be further postponed. These included lodging improvements, new fences at the Redwood Camp and Conference Center pools, and Ponderosa Lodge cabin deck and restroom repairs. The Board and staff share a deep conviction to be good stewards, “taking care” of what we already have before launching into building more of the “new.” Since introducing Project R.E.P.A.I.R. in June, friends of Mount Hermon have embraced this conviction through their ready financial support. For more information on Project R.E.P.A.I.R. and how you can help, please contact the Advancement Team at (831) 430-1237 or email advancement@mhcamps.org. Donated Van Meets Critical Need In early June, just before the busy summer season, one of Mount Hermon’s mini-vans was involved in an accident. Thankfully no one was injured in the collision, but the van was totaled. Losing one of our much needed vehicles could not have happened at a worse time. Read More... Two days later a friend of Mount Hermon contacted us. They were in the process of getting a new car and expressed a desire to donate the mini-van they no longer needed. This vehicle was exactly what we needed and only had 40,000 miles! It could not have come at a better time. Praise the Lord! Friends of Mount Hermon provide us with volunteer help, financial support, and gifts—such as a mini-van—that enable ministry to continue. If you would like to help by giving a gift that will impact lives for eternity, please visit the projects page on our website listed below. Mount Hermon Projects: http://www.mounthermon.org/projects Recreation Elements Get a Facelift Mount Hermon has several recreational elements that have received a facelift this summer! New chaise lounge chairs replaced the old plastic chairs at the Conference Center pool. The Ponderosa Lodge Skate Park half-pipe was rebuilt with metal instead of wood to provide a longer lifespan. Lastly, we refurbished our existing rowboats and purchased new boats, life jackets, and other boating supplies to get our waterfront boating program up-and-running again! Read More...
The Boats are Back
We praise the Lord for His faithfulness in providing the funds, equipment, and permission needed to allow the boats to return. We prayerfully anticipate how the Lord will use this sacred space to touch the hearts of those who row through His cathedral of redwoods. The final bill: just under $3,000, including the paid labor. Charlie and his wife, Linda, get great satisfaction out of serving as volunteers at Mount Hermon. Their grandkids are the fourth generation to attend here, and their four children worked on Mount Hermon summer staff. In addition to Charlie’s help with engineering projects, Linda volunteers frequently in the Dining Hall, joining a cadre of regulars who help with set-ups and clean-ups for Hymn Sings and other special events. Charlie is one of four Johnson brothers who have been active here for decades. He doesn’t want recognition. His satisfaction is simple: “I love it here.” |
One of the best things about being here as long as I have is the friends that I have been blessed to make over the years. Every summer I have the joy of reconnecting with those who have returned to be part of our Family Camps. Many of these are former Summer Staff who desire to bring their families to Mount Hermon to be part of something that was special to them in years past. A lot of them came with their families when they were kids and now return with their mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters for family reunions.
Mount Hermon is a place where God speaks into the hearts and lives of people of all ages from all walks of life. As stewards of the Gospel, Mount Hermon is passionate about creating safe and secure arenas where God can transform lives as people personally encounter Jesus. In June Mount Hermon launched Project R.E.P.A.I.R., as a means of tending to current infrastructure needs without interrupting our quality ministry experiences.
Due to generous friends of Mount Hermon, over $20,000 has been given towards these projects, and our waterfront boating needs along with the Child Care retaining wall are fully funded! These items are the setting for an atmosphere of fun, memory-building, and personal growth. They are tools used to change lives. These gifts were spent at the hardware store, but our Lord is leveraging its impact for eternity!
On August 6 at 1:30 p.m., Mount Hermon opened the boat docks after a five year absence. Praise the Lord! Approval was granted by Santa Cruz County Fish and Game to permit a seasonal dam following installation of our new fish ladder. The dam was installed on August 1 and it was full within 24 hours.
This summer, Mount Hermon introduced Echo as a multi-week program for high school students to live, serve, and grow together in community. Each week students sought spiritual formation and worked along side Mount Hermon staff in service and worship to the Lord. Upon the close of each session, participants wrote letters to future Echo campers. Here is an excerpt from one such letter:
