In the May 2007 LOG, Roger Williams told of a girl whose Kidder Creek summer staff experience “changed my life.” Her description of “authentic, lasting friendships that formed as we served together” has been a hallmark of the Lord’s work among our staff over the years. With Christ at the center, those we work with become still deeper friends. My summers on staff at Mount Hermon in 1968 and 1969 produced friendships I still hold dear, relationships of accountability and encouragement. It’s a “perk” that multiplies the more we focus on Christ and His work through us.
The same is consistent among our Family Camp families, who often forge deep connections, and each year return to camp together to further those relationships. My own daughters still have friendships as adults with girls they met at Family Camps.
Our volunteers also benefit as they apply their skills in strengthening Mount Hermon’s ministry. It is gratifying to watch these folks bond together as side-by-side they selflessly serve the Kingdom. Only the strengthening of their Love for the Lord as they serve eclipses their deepened relationships.
We at Mount Hermon are committed to such relationships, confident that the power for this resides in our growing and trusting walk with Jesus Christ. It’s that love for the Lord “with all our heart” that uniquely touches our neighbor.
