Ponderosa is nestled in the heart of one of the greatest mountain bike areas in California, we’ve got a fleet of Gary Fisher bikes that are just waiting for you to peddle them all over the trails of Ponderosa Lodge and nearby Henry Cowell state park. When God was sculpting the cost line of Santa Cruz county he must have had surfers in mind, this area is loaded with some of the best surf breaks in the world. From the hard-core Steamers Lane to the mellow Cowells beach there are a myriad of options only miles from Ponderosa to learn or refine your surfing skills in the great Pacific Ocean. Our Surfing fleet is equipped with warm 3/4 wetsuits and Surftech boards to help your transition from Valley Kook to surfing pro go as smoothly as possible. Our surf instructor will help you in your quest long nose rides and a smooth cut back, but won’t forget to remind you that it’s God who created this beautiful playground and we should praise him for it. If the sun is shining Ponderosa Lodge’s skate park is where you and your new camp friends want to find yourselves. Our park is a street course, a 3 ½ foot mini ramp, and a six ½ foot half pipe with a quarter bowl section and kink. With good tunes blaring, your friends encouraging you, and our skate instructor showing you how, this is the perfect place to learn how to skate or try and nail that trick you’ve always wanted to learn. Is having both feet firmly planted on the ground a little too boring for you? Find your way to Ponderosa’s Ropes course and play amongst the trees. Our ropes course is the perfect place to overcome fears, learn to trust in others and God, and challenge yourself to reach new heights, literally. Climb on our 60ft climbing tower, fly down our zip line, use a buddy to conquer Jacobs Ladder, or dare to contest the record times set on our vertical play pin, this is a place full of obstacles for you to overcome. Our climbing instructor will teach you how to belay, proper rope and climbing techniques, and just make sure you will have a great time. This course meanders through the Ponderosa Pines, and local terrain to make it a challenge for even the most experienced disc golf players. The sounds of nature are replaced by the wizzes whooshes and splats made by flying paintballs. You’ll have the opportunity to use either our semi-automatic Tipmann markers or our pump markers and challenge your new camp friends in one of our many variations of paintball. Our field has man made bunkers, barrels, ditches, and natural terrain all designed to offer you one intense battle after another. Sometimes the sweetest experiences at camp happen when you're surrounded by the ocean, the beach and sea lions! Grab a buddy, a paddle and a boat and join us in kayaking around the harbor and boardwalk in Santa Cruz. We provide you with a boat, life jackets, paddles, and an instructor and take them down to the Santa Cruz harbor where they can paddle around as the sun rises. Almost always you will see sea life from sea otters and star fish to sea lions. Located in the center of camp, it really is a great place to hang. With two pools, one for swimming, one for diving, this pool facility offers it all. Have a belly flop contest, challenge buddies at inner tube water polo, or play a game of water basketball, this is a great place with guaranteed good times. Don’t worry in the summer its cold enough to cool you off, and in the winter it’s a balmy 80 degrees, so no matter what time of year it is you can get a game of Marco Polo in.
