how can i help?

Tragedy has struck Haiti and I’m reminded of humanity, of how people care for one another and asking myself how can I help? I know that I don’t have a lot in my bank account or the knowledge to help with search and rescue efforts, or medical training. It’s easy to get caught and make a list of things I can’t do,  it’s easy to feel very small and think that I can’t do much from here in California.  But I do believe the most powerful thing I can do is pray, I’m reminded of a verse in Zephaniah

” The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

It’s good to remember that God is mighty  to save, that in suffering, pain, loss and devastation he is there quieting fear, pain and worry with his love.  Listening to the radio, I’ve heard stories of hope and stories of heartache…  one person interviewed said this, ” In this great tragedy, the Haitian’s are singing, when the night falls you walk the streets and hear people singing.”  There is community built when singing,  knowing the the Lord “rejoiced over us with singing” seems appropriate when I think of the people in Haiti singing.  There voices are not met in silence but with a compassionate God that in a way- sings back … well that’s how I like to think of it!  So, I’ll remember and continue to pray, and hope you do the same.
