The number one question I am asked these days is, “Are we going to have Family Camp this summer?” The answer? Yes, Family Camp is a go! We are able to be open due to each family having its own lodging unit to sleep in, allowing us to provide a safe environment for those that come.
At Family Camp we will experience a different summer with mostly outdoor activities in order to stay safe and be socially distanced. Very likely we will be eating outdoors, listening to sermons at Victory Circle, having a staggered schedule of ministry programming for kids, youth and adults, and whatever else it takes to ensure a safe environment for all. Although the COVID world we live in will hopefully be much improved by summer, we have reason to believe that we won’t be allowed to be “back to normal” at camp until fall or beyond. Time will tell.
Our goal as a staff is that when people leave Mount Hermon this summer they will say, “It was different this summer, but the staff did everything they could to make it an amazing week, and it was!” One thing I know, Jesus will be in the middle of it all!
Due to COVID restrictions, our Board of Directors have wisely decided that we will not open Redwood Camp or Ponderosa Lodge this summer for overnight campers. This is difficult, but we believe the right decision. Because of this, at Redwood Camp we will be providing six weekly Day Camps for local elementary aged children this coming summer. We desire to minister to as many people as possible while providing a safe experience.
We also believe that our adventure camp – Kidder Creek – will be open this summer, allowing children and youth to experience river rafting, mountain biking, back packing and horseback riding. Kidder Creek is located in Northern California close to the Oregon border, an amazing spot of God’s beautiful creation. Most of the activities at Kidder are outdoors, allowing campers to enjoy its activities in a safe environment.
As must be said during this COVID season – all this is subject to change - as so many things are beyond our control. But... we remain hopeful and steadfast in our resolve to have significant ministry happening at Mount Hermon this summer and beyond. We can’t wait to have campers here and hope that you will be one of them. I truly believe that this summer is going to be one of the most special and spiritually impactful summers in Mount Hermon’s 115 year history. God will make it so!
With love and hope,
