Each spring, flowering cherry trees dust Mount Hermon’s mall with showers of pink blossoms, and throughout the conference center, dogwoods celebrate Easter with a magnificent display of cross-shaped blooms. All year round, majestic redwoods tower over a glorious rainbow of flowers and plants in a marvelous display of the Creator’s handiwork.
From the beginning of the world, God established a special relationship between human beings and nature. No wonder people so naturally connect with God through his creation. Mount Hermon has a unique opportunity to educate in the area of environmental stewardship.
Practicing stewardship in Mount Hermon’s kitchens means buying in-season produce from local growers as much as possible. No need to truck it in, since it mostly comes from Watsonville, just 15 miles away. At Mount Hermon, strawberries go from the field to the table in less than 24 hours!
In addition, the kitchen staff composts coffee grounds and vegetable scraps. And with an eye to the future, they are working toward fair trade purchasing of rice and quinoa.
Great for the environment means great for us all. Please join in caring for the land God has entrusted to Mount Hermon. And when you go back home, carry the gift of environmental stewardship along with you.
